Datto NAS Backup

Datto’s NAS backup brings to the table 500GB of storage space which ought to be more than enough for the average home PC user who makes copies of his/her Word documents and spreadsheets only. Should you think that 500GB is way too large for your needs, there is always a 100GB version (I personally would have preferred a 250GB model instead). Should your unit actually buckle up and die, a backup will be delivered to your home in less than 24 hours. The 100GB and 500GB models will retail for $399 and $599 respectively, and will be accompanied by a $99 and $249 annual fee.

The Sidekick/Grammy Tour kicks off in Chicago with John Legend

I just got back from Chicago yesterday afternoon after fulfilling my duties as a Sidekick Roadie. Those duties included meeting the artists, hanging out with the VIP winners, and having too much fun. Colbie Caillat, Cat Power, and John Legend put on a great show and it looks like everyone had fun. I’m sure T-Mobile will have all sorts of pictures and video up on www.sidekick.com shortly. If you want to read about the trip, head over to the Tour blog where I’m posting about my experience going on tour with T-Mobile. If you’re in New York, we’ll be heading into town next week so look out!

Alltop - the (gadget) blog aggregator

If after reading CG you still find yourself craving for even more gadget news check out gadgets.alltop.com, an aggregation of all the top gadget blogs.

Along with gadgets Alltop has sections for other popular blogging niches (Gaming, Politics, Photography etc.). Though why you’d want to stray away from gadgets and tech I don’t know.

This post maybe somewhat on the biased side, as Alltop is a project by Guy Kawasaki and I’m currently sat in a room listening to him.

iPod nano Belt

This belt not only helps keep your pants up, but your spirit as well. Using polyurethane leather, the buckle boasts a headphone port that allows you to listen to your iPod nano just about anywhere you go. After all, with the ipod nano tucked away safely inside the buckle itself, it makes it all the harder for someone to nick it. The iPod nano belt retails for $33.99 a pop. I’d strongly recommend you removing your headphones before you drop your pants, lest you want the earbuds to unceremoniously make a hasty exit from your ears down to the floor.

Your city’s coverage stinks; Neilson’s list shows why

This funky map shows the best 3G and voice network around the country according to Neilson survey.  Where does your major metro area rank?  You’d think the big cities would at least be in the top five right?  Nope.

Indeed, it seems the bulk of city dwellers in the nations largest cities suffer with subpar speed and access.  Florida is looking pretty good for phone service while good data is spread out.  Anyone planning on using this data to plan your next move?

Cities with top ten voice networks averaged a 99.2% successful call rate; on average, 0.3% of all calls in these cities were dropped. Among the cities with top ranked 3G data networks, the average download speed for a 4 megabyte (MB) file was 727 kbps—an increase of more than 100 kbps over the top market average measured during the second half of 2006. Nielsen defines a “successful call” as one established and maintained for at least two minutes.

The Hangover Helper

The Hangover Helper

Most people who consume too much alcohol in a given drinking occasion will experience a hangover at some point. Hangovers are a set of symptoms that are thought to be brought on by withdrawal from a temporary drug addiction, or they may result from alcohol’s chemical contents. If you’ve over indulged this really is a life saver. Fill with ice or hot water and apply to the area that hurts most! Also good on everyday aches and pains

Verizon Wireless redesigns retail stores

Verizon Wireless has started redesigning its retail stores located in around 280 locations US-wide. Verizon has refurbished the old look of the its stores with bright colors and engaging layout. The redesign was implemented to provide their customers with a new and worthwhile experience while getting their fix of the latest Verizon gizmos.

“With these stores, Verizon Wireless takes the next step in wireless retailing. We are committed to providing customers with a unique and engaging shopping environment as well as easy access to support services,” said Jack Plating, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Verizon Wireless.

The new Verizon stores will have features that include; a demo zone for exploring, experimenting and learning about Verizon’s new products, samples of working handsets, PC cards and other devices, a greeter and bill payment kiosks as well as customer service and technical support departments. However, all of these features will not be carried out in every store due to limitations with space.

So, don’t be surprised with the new look of your favorite Verizon stores the next time you visit them. If you don’t see any difference, you may have to wait for a little while as Verizon has only finished redesigning around 100 Verizon stores. The remaining 180 stores will follow soon. Unfortunately, there’s no Microsoft Surface in the Verizon retail locations, for that you still have to visit an AT&T store.

Flickr helps find your friends with, uh, Find Your Friends feature

Flickr figured it’s about time we found out who among our friends also keep online photo albums. If you’d like an easy way to search for people you know on Flickr’s user base, you can do so now with a convenient, and aptly titled Find Your Friends Feature. All you have to do is access the Find Your Friends page while logged in, and Flickr will access your address book for you and automagically bring you a list of users with email addresses matching those in your address book. This isn’t new, but still a great feature especially for those who have at least a few hundred people in email address books.

XP can’t be saved–going away June 30th

According to the All About Microsoft blog, Microsoft has officially confirmed that you will no longer be able to purchase a copy of Windows XP after June 30th.

This was the original date set in the Windows Life-Cycle Policy, and the only exceptions are shipping in Ultra Low-Cost PCs, like the Asus Eee, or shipping preloaded on new machines. The ULPCs exception ends on June 30, 2010, or one year after the next version of Windows is available, whichever comes first. As for pre-installed machines, their time is up on January 31, 2009.

We previously reported on a petition to save XP, and it looks like Microsoft has decided to go with its original plan, despite more than 100,000 people asking Microsoft to not stop OEM and shrink-wrapped sales of XP.

If you love XP go buy some copies now because after June 30th, you’re stuck with Vista.
